Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989. She was born in West Reading, PA. Later, in 2004, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee so she could have a career in country music. She released her first album, called Taylor Swift, under her new record label, Big Machine Records, created by Scott Borchetta. She won the Country Music Association's Horizon Award for Best New Artist, and the American Music Awards' Favorite Country Female Artist honor.
The release of her second album, Fearless, made her gain even more recognition. Taylor's "You Belong With Me" music video won Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards. Kanye West interrupted her acceptance speech, saying Beyonce deserved it, and was booed off, upsetting 19 year old Taylor. However, Fearless wound up winning Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
Taylor released her third studio album, Speak Now, and the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. At the American Music Awards, Taylor won Artist of the Year as well as Favorite Country Album. She also was Billboard's Woman of the Year.
Taylor released her fourth album, Red. With the release of this album, Taylor became the first female artist to have two million-selling album openings. Red got four nominations at the Grammy Awards, but did not win Album of the Year. Taylor also landed roles in The Lorax,The Giver, and cameoed in the TV show New Girl.
In 2014, Taylor moved to New York, and released her fifth album and first pop album, 1989. Taylor was again Billboard's Woman of the Year, and 1989 won 3 awards at the Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Music Video for "Bad Blood".
In 2017, Taylor sued DJ David Mueller for groping her. About 4 years earlier, after Mueller had harassed her, she informed his bosses and gotten him fired. Mueller promptly sued Taylor for "lying" and for damages. Taylor countersued for one dollar, and the judge ruled in favor of her. She released "Look What You Made Me Do" shortly thereafter.
Later, in November 2017, after not being seen for months, Taylor released her sixth studio album, reputation. It sold one million copies within its first week in the US. The Reputation Stadium Tour grossed $266.1 million in the US and sold over 2 million tickets, breaking the record for highest-grossing tour in the US, previously held by Taylor's 1989 World Tour. Worldwide, the tour grossed $345.7 million, and became the second highest-grossing tour of the year. While reputation was not nominated for any Grammy Awards, Taylor won more awards, breaking Whitney Houston's record for most awards given to females in AMA history. reputation was Taylor's last album under Big Machine Records, and Taylor then signed to Universal Music Group.
Taylor released her seventh album Lover in August 2019. All 18 tracks on the album made it to the Billboard Hot 100, setting a record. Lover also made Taylor the first female artist to sell more than 500,000 copies on the first week. Taylor also landed a role in the film Cats, and got praise for her role, even though the film received negative reviews. Later the same year, Taylor released a documentary Miss Americana, directed by Lana Wilson. The documentary showed Taylor's life behind the scenes, and got positive reviews. Taylor got into a publicized argument with her former label Big Machine Records and talent manager Scooter Braun. According to Taylor, she had been trying to buy her masters back, but Braun was manipulating her, and only allowed her to pay to get them back if she signed an NDA. Braun later sold her masters, videos, and artworks to Shamrock Holdings, and Taylor began re-recording her albums. She declined an offer from Shamrock which would make her a part-owner of the business, because Braun would still profit from Taylor's albums.
In July 2020, Taylor released her eighth album, a surprise alternative album called folklore, which she recorded while in quarantine for COVID-19. folklore received praise from critics, and sold two million copies worldwide in the first week of it being out. The lead single, "cardigan" was at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Taylor became the first artist to debut at the top of the Hot 100 and Billboard 200. She received six nominations for folklore at the Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
In December 2020, Taylor surprised her fans once again with evermore, her ninth album and a sister album to folklore. evermore sold more than a million copies in its first week. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
Taylor has received hate for multiple things, such as a public feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Taylor was angry at Kanye for saying that he made her famous in his song "Famous". Taylor promptly received hate, and Kim Kardashian called her a snake. Taylor has also received hate for dating many people, and writing breakup songs about them. Some of her exes include Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Styles, and Calvin Harris. She is currently dating Joe Alwyn. She also had a famous feud with Katy Perry, started when Katy Perry pulled some of her dancers in the middle of Taylor Swift's Red World Tour, and had them join her Prismatic tour. They tweeted about each other, throwing shade. They finally made up in Taylor's "You Need to Calm Down" music video.
Taylor owns three cats, Olivia, Meredith, and Benjamin. She owns a home in Rhode Island known as "Holiday House". She is also friends with many people, including Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds. Taylor has previously said that Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Carly Simon were her influences growing up. She has also said artists like Pete Wentz and Lana Del Rey were her favorite lyricists. She has also influenced many other artists, including Selena Gomez, Halsey, Niall Horan, Shawn Mendes, and Katy Perry.
