THE NES

Nintendo made their first home console called the famicom. This was a big hit in japan. So Naturally they wanted to release it in America. But this was no easy task. In 1983 the video game market crashed. Video games were a dead fad accouding to the news and the sales of them plummeted. This was caused by a heavy oversaturation of systems, false advertising, and sub par games. No one wanted a video game system. So how can nintendo prove that their system wasnt like the others? They package it with a Robot and try to sell it as a toy. Thats not all they did, They changed the design to look more like a VCR. They also never refered to the video games as video games. They called them game packs. But the main thing was the Robot who was named R.O.B (the robotic operating buddy). The only problem was retailers werent fooled. They knew. So Nintendo agreed that they would buy back any unsold units at full price. The retailers accepted this because it was no risk for them and a ton of risk for nintendo. The Nes was a huge success it got popular by word of mouth and when people were asked why they bought it, most of them said it came with a cool robot. And thats why we have video games today. so next time your playing on your ps4 xbox or switch, (or ps5 if your really lucky) remember where it all started. with a tiny robot.
